Hi there, I'm Mr. Row! I'm lucky enough to be the music teacher at Ralya Elementary and 1st grade music specialist at Wilkshire Early Childhood Center. I'm so excited to be teaching in Haslett and working with brilliant, young music makers! This is my second year teaching in Michigan and my sixth full year teaching music. I'm loving it!
I graduated from Greenville College (IL) in 2008 with a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Performance and Worship Arts and then went on to the University of Missouri - Kansas City where I earned my Master's Degree studying Choral Conducting and Music Education (2011). I completed my Orff Schulwerk certification (specialized music education training) at Baker University in KS and I can't say enough about how happy I am to have taken all three Orff levels! I worked for eleven summers with Royal Family Kids' Camp, a non-profit organization for abused and neglected children ages 6-12. Through that experience I was able to work directly with children who have ADHD, behavioral and emotional disorders, mental or physical disabilities, are on the autism spectrum, and have other high-risk needs. I think a lot about teaching! When I'm not actively teaching kids I'm often thinking about how I can teach better, creating materials/decorations to make teaching easier, and working with other people to learn more about how to teach well. I have been writing about teaching for the last three years on my blog: MakeMomentsMatter.org I'm also active in the music education community in the Lansing area and am the current president of the Mid-Michigan Orff Schulwerk Association, a professional organization of music and movement educators in the Mid-Michigan. When I'm not spending time in the classroom I love to explore Mid-Michigan looking for good BBQ and buffalo wings (please email me with your suggestions). I also love to read, cook, run, drink coffee, and walk around Lansing with my basset hound, Milo. |
