Click below to hear songs that we have performed in class. We record these songs at the end of class after we have had the chance to try out different instruments and options. We often rotate instruments, so this might be a students first time playing this part. No matter what, we have a lot of fun! With the first song you will hear fifth grade compositions with the poem "Whether it's cold..." They did this in one day, identifying weather vocabulary, thinking through the rhythm of each words, working in groups to put together "word chains," and then performing the piece together as a class!

Fifth Grade Curriculum Elements
Here are some of the things we're doing in music class this year! As you read, you might see "TLW" this is an abbreviation for "the learner will..."
Singing
TLW sing a variety of songs using the syllables Do, Re, Mi, Fa, and Sol.

Instruments
TLW perform an accompaniment pattern to a known folk song.

Beat & Rhythm
TLW play, either individually or in a group, and remain on their assigned part.

Listening & Evaluation
TLW aurally identify instruments of each of the four instrument families.

Movement Concepts
TLW sing and dance a Virginia Reel.

Creating
TLW decode rhythms (written) in 6/8 meter.

Reading
TLW read rhythm patterns in duple and triple meter.
